I don't remember this post, but taking off from this -

All the coin mech does is sort out good coins from bad coins. Since for home use, you probably don't need to worry about tampering, slugs, or foreign coins, you really don't need a coin mech at all.

If you look in the bottom of your coin mech holders, you'll find a switch - it looks kind of like a regular microswitch, but instead of a button, it has a long bent metal piece (it's kind of a wire on mine, I don't know if it's the same on all of them that activates the switch.) On some coin door's it's readily visible, on some it's sort of hidden inside the bottom part of the mech holder.

When the coin enters the coin shute, and passes through the coin mech (if it's a good coin) it comes out the bottom of the coin mech and hits this metal piece on it's way to the coin box. This sets of the switch and just like a button sends an input - so all you really need to do is send the coin from the coin slot to this switch. You could make a cardboard shute, or whatever. I'm planning on taking two pieces of wood, and routing a shute out of the sides and then sticking them together to make mine. (did that make sense?)

: I know this probably isn't super helpful, but I remember a visitor to this site/board talking abou t how he rigged his machine to accept any and all coins. He did something with a piece of cardboard that he folded/bent in half (so that it resembled a "V" shape) to act as a chute/guide for the coins to roll down on. Maybe if you search through the archives or the examples, you'll get lucky and find it and find it very useful.
