OK, final entry - you're starting to sound like Demente.

Okay, Spaniard, I'm not replying anymore to this thread. We're going in too many directions at once and losing focus.

: What I'm saying is that a panel that holds so many controls together is unrealistic. I didn't bother to pay much attention to your panels really...

1) You're probably referring to the "first crazy incarnation" of my dream panel, right at the top of the page, rather than the more sensible swapped configurations near the middle which came later;
2) the fact that you didn't bother to pay much attention to my panels and the reasons behind their evolving layout disqualifies you from criticizing them and dismissing them summarily;
3) You expected to post your monster 4-player panel and have no-one respond with suggestions or different opinions? Even after my initial sarcastic tirade, I never came out and called it "unrealistic."

: Well... I don't care too much what you or anybody else say.

Nor what you yourself say obviously, and it's starting to get tedious.

: I have my own ideas, and I'm sure of what I want. Are you?

You're damn right, I am. I knew what I wanted long before you even knew about those trackball and spinner games I listed earlier. You're free to enjoy them or discard them, or to choose between trackball and mouse.

: Because I have the impression that your ideas are more like a theory manual about how to make the perfect control panel, than to build a panel that is useful and practical.

What the hell??

1) There is no single perfect control panel that is right for everybody. You can't determine that, and I don't presume to. If you THINK that is my intent, get some eyeglasses.
2) With the knowledge that "perfection," "usefuless" and "practicality" are all subjective to some degree, how do you separate "perfect" from "useful and practical"? I don't intend to design or build anything that is one and not the other; that's a waste of my time. My page evolves from the fantastical to the practical, so it should be clear that I've spent quite a lot of time thinking about WHAT'S RIGHT FOR ME.

Have you really decided what's perfect for you? You seem to be having trouble, deciding between your first monster 4-player cab panel design and your current 1-player desk panel.

: Money is not a problem, but spending money in useless things is a senseless attitude.

Of course! I dare you to point out to me what's useless for my needs, on my panels. I've picked out exactly what I need, nothing less and nothing more. Those needs will change and evolve to include things like a Dreamcast and possibly PS2, but there won't be any wasted controls.

Now, if we turn to YOUR monster 4-player panel, I'd like to compare costs.

: : You don't have to justify your choices to me or anyone else on this board. Everybody who has

: HAHAHA that's funny.

Excuse me? Is there a language barrier in the Atlantic Ocean? You're starting to sound like "Demente."

: Yes, I think your webpage had more information and pics some time ago.

I've not removed any information.

: If you look for confortable gameplay, you have to leave free space, to rest your hands, not to touch the other's players hands etc. The more controls you put the less free space you have.

Sigh! That's why I designed the swappable panels (the drawings were not to scale)... and also why I want a showcase cabinet. After playing 2-player Varth last week at a local university arcade, I KNOW my shoulders will not be happy with a standard 24"-wide, integrated stand-up cabinet. That's just one example of practicality out of many that I have considered.
