have you considered splitting the connections to the serial interface
and sending them to both the trackball and spinner? I dont' know if

: Yes, you absolutely could wire them to a switch. In my setup, both devices are hot-swappable. Well, not the interfaces, exactly, but the devices that connect to the devices. As long as the interface kits are connected at startup, anything I swap onto them (even on the serial version) works just fine. So a switch is virtually the same concept.
