The mouse has to have both types of electronics inside for the adaptor to work. Some mice do. Some mice don't. A lot of computers have trouble with serial mice when they have PS2 ports. The Compusa Crystal trackball works with the adaptor. (The new ones do, the old ones were PS2 only).
Do you need both mice to function separately?
If not you can just use a PS2 splitter. (IE both mice use the same cursor. This allows for a trackball and spinner both).
I actually made a separate trackball control panel for my cabinet because there wasn't enough room for 2 Joysticks and the trackball on my Pacman cabinet. (Old cabinets had really small control panels compared to more modern ones).
