This is absolutely the best thing to do. I bought a used 1995 20" monitor and took it out of the case to get it to fit. Inside the plastic case was a steel frame around everything anyway! The front panel buttons were connected with about 5 wires. I'm thinking of cutting the wires and mounting the buttons (all on 1 circuit board) inside the coin door, then reconnecting the wires.
