PC Monitor - Removing Case For More Room?

I have a converted Asteroids cabinet that I would like to put a 19 inch monitor inside of. Of course, my Dell 19 incher isn't fitting in there, it's just too damn big. My question is this - Has anyone removed the casing and left their setup that way to get more room in there, and do you recommend it?
