Remeber PlayChoice 10? You'd put in quarters and have a certain amount of time to play whatever games were in the machine?..

It would be VERY easy to code an interface like this for a mame machine.. You have your frontend boot up into the "Looking for credits" screen, Have them drop in quarters, and from the second it loads up MAME or whatever emulator, the clock counts down (It would be easy also to interface an LCD Timer somewhere (Maybe up in/near the marquee) to count it down... .. All you'd have to do is have the program store all processes that it opened, after the time runs out, HALT the processes, give 20 secounds to put in another credit, and if no credit is inserted, then close all processes and go back to the opening screen, if another credit IS inserted, resume the processes and start it back up (Do this MULTITHREADED???).

The problem with this: CHARGING to play MAME games which is TOTALLY ILLEGAL and completely contradictory to the intentions of the mame team... (Hell I spent about $700 building my MAME cab, I'd love to get some loot back from my friends who pound on it, but I have morals) .. lol :)
