The orientation warning I have seen the most is the problem of using an upright monitor in a cocktail table.
This usually only applies to used monitors which have been in the upright orientation for some time. Then flipping them to the cocktail position, where all the phosphorous that has delaminated over time, slides down into the neck and causes an electrical short.
Poof.. dead monitor.
