Depending on the context of the warning, it could be heat, but most likey it is due to the orientation. If a monitor was made to be horizontal, and you mounted it vertical or on its back - you could see image and color distortion. I'm not an expert as to why, but it has to do with the magenetic field surrounding the earth and how it affects the monitor.

To correct this, you should degauss the monitor once in its proper position. From other reports, this clears it up almost 100%
: I have seen in numerous places warnings about mounting monitors in positions other than those in which they were intended (i.e. vertically). Why is this? What is the risk? If it is just a heat problem, couldn't it be taken care of with some cooling fans?
