Happ's Super Joystick, how do you fix the diagnols?

I have been to many states in a Ryu-like fashion honing my Soul Calibur skills, and almost all Soul Claibur machines have Happ's Super Joysticks (most Tekken's do too) and a common problem is that diagnol movements are not registered even close to consistently. On some cabinets they don't work at all. In any case, I was wondering how to fix this. I know the cause for it already (circular rubber contact rod ender, metal flanges, spongey cherry switches, blah blah), but I know many of you smarties have found ways to fix the problem, so I was just wondering how? Thank you for your help, it is appreciated.
