It's not a stupid question.

The speed of the PC you'll need depends on what you want to do. If you want to play the classic games, (like Pac-Man, Asteroids, Donkey Kong, Etc) you'd probably be fine with a Pentium 266 w/ 32 megs ram.

However, if you plan on playing Neo-Geo (and especially the newer games like KOF99 and/or Garou:MOTW you'll most likely want to go with something a little better like a p2-266 or p2-300, and DEFINITELY with 128Megs of ram... which.. you can easily pick up for VERY cheap.

I'm in the process of getting either a 700 or a 1ghz just so I can play the midway games (NBA JAM, MK2, MK3, UMK3, etc :))

Good lucK!

: OK, sorry if this is a stupid question. Anyway, I'm a Mac user, (my computer is mainly for graphic design, not gaming) but I'm looking to buy a seperate computer, (probably used) to be dedicated for emulation, and eventually be put into a MAME cabinet.

: Anyway, it'll most likely be a used PC by the looks of things, (I know a place going out of business and selling all of theirs) but I know absolutely nothing about PCs. (Well, I'm comfortable running DOS and Windows, I just don't know a thing about PC hardware and hardware requirements)

: What are the minimum requirements you think I should be looking for to run MAME and what not? Is it worth it to get a nice new fancy computer? Mostly I'll be using it for older titles, (probably a lot of Joust), but I'd also love to be able to play Neo Geo titles too. (Does the DOS MAME do a better job with Neo Geo stuff, or should I look for a Neo Geo emulator?)

: Any help here would be appreciated...
