heh.... It adds up fast doesn't it? But seriously.... Lets face it, a large portion of the cost here is the computer ... and ya can't do too much about that. My processor was $120 damn cheap (now like $60) and the hard drive was 8 gig but a 2 gig only saves me like $50. Multiple control panels really jacks up the price too.
But really the biggest savings I coulda had was in hardware. I coulda spent a ton less. BUT!! the problem was that I didn't know what I was going to need. I just got stuff for radio shack and home depot when I needed it. If I KNEW what I needed i could have gotten stuff mail order and saved a ton of money. That is the single suggestion I would tell anyone starting a project like this. Unfortunatly its hard to guage what you are going to need. I'm 34 years old now and I can afford it now but I never could before.
: Funny, my cabinet was supposed to cost me around $1000 too. How come I ended up with Mr. Salty-like bills?! ($1800)
: Seriously, its amazing to see a junior in high school with such a high interest level in this topic. Kudos to Rob Caskey!
: I love these games because I grew up with them. I'm 30 years old and I remember these games when they were new in the arcades. Part of my youth.
: If I was 16 or 17 (i.e. born after many of these games were released), I wonder how captivated I'd be with these odd sprites and 2D gameplay. I can't help but think that newer technology and 3D graphics would have spoiled me.
: I guess this truly is a testament to the quality of these old classics.
: Oh, and I could never have bankrolled such an undertaking in HS. Besides, we didn't have resources to do research like this when I graduated in 1987. No Internet for the masses!
: Why do I feel so old?
