Confusion about different varities of MAME

All this talk has me confused about the pros and cons of ArcadeOS vs. AdvanceMAME vs. VSyncMame. If there is a whitepaper out there, I would gladly read it, but I can find none.

I am most interested in knowing what it might do for my fixed frequency monitor in terms of stretching displays to the edges of the screen and supporting other video modes. Here is all the info I have about this monitor (stolen from a newsgroup):

The InterVue 20 is 1.3-megapixel, .28mm dot pitch, horizontal scan rate 31.5 or 82KHz, vertical scan rate 60 to 154Hz, resolution up to 1280x1024 pixels at 76Hz based on the 20 inch Matsushita/Panasonic tube.
