: All this talk has me confused about the pros and cons of ArcadeOS vs. AdvanceMAME vs. VSyncMame. If there is a whitepaper out there, I would gladly read it, but I can find none.

ArcadeOS is NOT a MAME variant - it's a frontend for MAME and other emulators.

VSyncMAME & Advance MAME are special versions of MAME with extra video features. To my knowledge Advance MAME is the most versatile version of MAME in the world, and does everything VSyncMAME does plus more - you can make any mode imaginable so every game has truly perfect displays. The drawback is that it's very complex and takes time to learn and configure. But the results are worth the work. What hardware you use also affects what you can do with it - I highly recommend reading about how monitors work a bit and what the various scan numbers mean etc. before using it.

There is also an awesome frontend called mm that you can use with it, or you can use ArcadeOS or any other frontend for that matter.

Also, your monitor is very versatile - you can do some really cool display modes with it. When you start to get good with mv (the video mode making program, you'll see) you can try making modes at double refresh like 120Hz etc. and you'll get some very cool hardware scanlines without loss of brightness!

: I am most interested in knowing what it might do for my fixed frequency monitor in terms of stretching displays to the edges of the screen and supporting other video modes. Here is all the info I have about this monitor (stolen from a newsgroup):

: The InterVue 20 is 1.3-megapixel, .28mm dot pitch, horizontal scan rate 31.5 or 82KHz, vertical scan rate 60 to 154Hz, resolution up to 1280x1024 pixels at 76Hz based on the 20 inch Matsushita/Panasonic tube.
:
: InterVue-20
: Mode Vert. refresh Horiz. refresh Pixel Clock
: 640x480 154Hz 81kHz 65MHz
: 800x600 126Hz 81kHz 81MHz
: 1024x768 99Hz 81kHz 104MHz
: 1280x1024 76Hz 81kHz 130MHz
