This question has come up many times here. I believe the genreal conclusion was thats all about personal preference.
I have tried both the 4way and 8way leafswitch joysticks in 4way games and had not really more problem with controlling them with a 8way. So I choose for only 8way sticks.
Since you have allready both 4way and 8way jousticks I would suggest making first a mockup setup and play some 4way games and compare them...
