Those OK Buttons - a solution perhaps?

Okay, I've been looking at the message board for a while and noticed that a few people have been asking for a way to circumvent the problem that MAME keeps asking for you to press the OK keys every time you start a game.

A while ago, I was asked by a friend of mine to build a front end for a CD of Mame roms, marquees, screenshots, cab pics etc that ran DOS Mame from a list of games with a friendly Win32 interface. After developing a working system, I found that:

With Mame B16 Final, if a cfg file was found in the cfg directory, it no longer asks for the OK keys. So My front end just generates an empty file called .cfg in the cfg directory if one does not already exist. then Mame overwrites that after you quit the game, with the correct mame generated one. So all you have to do is generate a Batch file that copies and renames an empty file into the cfg folder for each game.

You still have to press enter to start the emulation, but there are no OK keys in mame.

Note: I cannot speak for all the versions of MAME that have come after Beta 16 Final. They may have corrected this.

Hope that helps.

Paul.
