Hey,
I sent my rant to Act Labs about including their guns in Mame and this is what I got back:
>Hi Jay, I think I have good news for you! :) We are just completing the >development of our new USB PC Light Gun product. We hope to release the >product at the end of next month. It requires no drivers and I have >already verified that it works with MAME (ie. Duck Hunt, Hogans Alley, >Terminator 2, Crossbow, etc.) plus other PC shooting games such as House >of the Dead 2, etc. No game support is required as our gun emulates a >mouse in a special way with pixel accuracy. All screen resolutions >supported as well. Good news huh?
>Feel free to share this information with the MAME community and we look >forward to supporting the community itself.
>Thanks for your message!!

I'm not so sure what to make out of this. It sounds promising, but I bet it's still monitor dependent. I sent him another email asking about 2player support. That would probably have to be written into Mame. I thought someone put out a multiple mice version though? Does anyone else remember? Would the multiple mice version work through usb? I thought I remembered it being a ps-2 and a serial. I forgot to ask about the calibration problems that the first Act Labs mouse emulation had.
Anyway, this looks like it might be good news for the PC and WG monitor users out there, and hopefully a starting place for others to hack.
(HAC and Lilwolf: I'm curious to see what would happen if we took an arcade optic pcb from Happs and hacked it onto one of these. Maybe your Eygo monitor would pick it up. Makes sense to try an arcade pcb hack for an arcade monitor (unless that monitor isn't something that the arcade gun games could have used), or a playstation pcb hack for a TV. Has anyone tried it?)
