There would be a couple levels of adjustment.
height from disc
angle parallel disc surface
angle along the radius line
The biggest thing being the angle along the radius line, which I think that's what urebel meant. But they all take a role in performance.
You need that angle to be perfect so as the small amount of disc that rotates under the mouse sensor appears to be moving straight left and right. if you angle it slightly it will move the cursor up and down slightly too.
It;s doable, just building it would be a pain (and take up alot of space under the panel).
I wa able to do this using a cd mounted on a spindle while holding the mouse above it. Works quite well.
