One quick nit to pick:
You say setting the Super's actuator to 4 way prevents it from contacting two microswitches at a time. While it's HARDER to hit diagonals with the stick set up that way, you absolutely CAN hit both microswitches at once (my continuity tester backs me up on this)... perhaps just clarifying that would help.
