anyone good with windows?

I was just trying to figure out if there might be a way for me to start up windows without the startbar at the bottom. If I put it on autohide, or just drag it down as far as it will go, it still shows up when I boot my cabinet, but before it starts up mame. I'm just trying to remove the windows feel and look as much as I can. Ideas appreciated.
