Same thing happens on my TV. It flared up when there was white on the screen for 20 secs or so, and remained thru other colors after. I took it to a service shop, and $120 dollars later it still wasn't fixed. The service guy could not replicate the effect, so he assumed he fixed it. When I got home same prob. I took it back with my cpu to show him, then he was confused. The purity of the tube is fine, as indicated by the lack of the effect after degausing. It also only comes up when hooked up to a DVD player or cpu. He called RCA and they had the following to say: It is only caused by High contrast signals coming in to the TV. The high contrast causes the power supply to overheat, which inturn causes the blotches. The term tv techs use for this effect is "doming". It is not repairable and is a design flaw of alot of 25" and 27" TVs with svideo. The power supplys are under sized for high contrast signals on alot of models.
Turning down the contrast helps, but you get a very dull picture. I plan on using mine untill I can buy a higher end model.
: Running Linux Xmame and a Nintendo Emulator on my Panasonic TV via S-Video. I have this odd purple patch slightly up and to the left of center. I never noticed it watching TV, but do when the computer is attached. The thing is, it's not always there. If i run super mario brothers, for example, the screen will start off looking fine but after about five minutes the purple patch will appear. If i switch back to watching TV for, say, 30 seconds, and then go back to the game the patch is gone (but reappears after some more time)
: I thought maybe my speakers were too close, but moved them to no avail (also when i move them closer the color they induce is green not purple). After moving them. I did several cold power ons (wait 30 min) to get the internal degausser to work. Problem is still there.
