Well, after soldering the leads onto the switches for my joysticks, I decided that I was going to use quick connects on the push buttons.
Don't worry, your not the only 'neurotic' out there... I had the same questions too (I'm using CAT5, but the connects are rated to accept 14-16 gauge).
Just saying 'thanks' for asking my question before I had to. :)

: I've used both solder-on and crimp connects more times than I care to mention, but the only .187" quick connects I could find are crimp-ons for 14-16 gauge wire (using 22 gauge solid for my cab).
: Considering either stripping twice what I need and doubling up (folding it over on itself) the wire before I solder into the connectors (and of course , cutting off the plastic insulators from the connects) or possibly stripping the normal amount off, folding it back across the insulator and crimping the connectors on (the same way you put spark plug wires together)
