I have the same problem with Marble Maddness.
Centipede uses a 4 bit counter for the trackball. If the state changes by more than 7-8 between reads (depending on direction) it 'wraps' around to the opposite direction. I wrote an emulator once that would trap this, but there was no such thing on the real machine.
The best solution I found was to set the mouse acceleration to minimum in windows, and then use the sensitivity in MAME to fine tune it.
: I know this willl sound like a foolish question but are there other analog ajustments besides track x and track y sensitivity? I have 2 mame cabs that both have high speed computers(no frame skipping) and i cannot get centipede or tempest to have enough sensitivity without backspin. I thought it was in my mouse driver but i can spin the trackball faster than a jet turbine and the cursor won't backspin in windows. Start mame and i can get back spin by looking at the trackball wrong! i tried a ps2 mouse, no difference. (i am using an optipac) is there some sort of adjustment to make mame make the player ship "go faster" without turning up sensitivity? (just the ship, not the game, i know how to speed it up)
: Thanks in advance
