MDF is great stuff... smooth, easy to work with, easy to finish, sturdy. Only caveat: it eats router bits for lunch. Geez. There's something demoralizing about staring at a worthless piece of scrap metal that five minutes previous had been a $10 router bit. If you're using MDF and you're planning on doing some routing, expect to be on a first name basis with the guy at the tool corral.

I used a 1 1/8" "Woodeater" bit. Not quite the same as a spade bit, it's substantially thicker. *Very* fast through the MDF, and it's tolerable through Lexan. (Actually, going through the Lexan was a bit of a pain in the ass, but it all worked out in the end.) A single bit has been able to do all, um, (counting on fingers), 27 holes in my cab so far.
