Using a joystick-port Sidewinder is the easier way to go. It has the holes there for all your button connections, making it easier to solder (no scrapeing).

I just picked up one off Ebay for $10US.

See here: http://www.arcadecontrols.com/arcade_staticx.shtml#Why

and here:

For more info on it. It seems like the joystick-port Sidewinder pad is the only one with the holes.

Tip: If you look under the white connector, there are holes for up, down, left, and right, so you don't have to 'scrape'.

Hope it helps,
Bill

: Is it possible to convert a "Microsoft SideWinder Plug & Play Game Pad 4 action buttons; 8-way directional pad; quick triggers" into an arcade style one, using wrongcrowds method (1 Happ Controls 8-way Ultimate Joystick, 10 arcade buttons)? http://wrongcrowd.com/~arcade/joystickp1.shtml

: any help would be appreciated.
