Booting without keyboard plugged in?

Is it possible to boot up a computer without the keyboard plugged in?

I always get the "press F1" screen.

I dont want to install a keyboard drawer in my cab, and am thinking about just having the female connector available on the front panel so that I can plug in the keyboard if neccessary.

I plan on using the trackball to navigate Windoze.
