trackball switching directions at high speeds

I remember reading a post about this a while back but couldn't
find it via the search engine. Now I'm experiencing it. I've
got a brand new 3" happ under DOS using msmouse 8.24 I believe.
Anyway to keep it from doing this. It's very noticeable on Marble
Madness. Any ideas on how to stop or minimize this effect?
