: I am not Andy but...
: (Andy, if I am wrong don't hesitate to correct me)

: : It should now allow all video signals to work on the arcade monitor?

: No. You would still have to provide the appropriate frquency. From my understanding this just makes the video signal stronger (fixes the problem of your arcade monitor working great with the pcb board but really dim with the pc).

Andy> Correct. It is an amp not a scan converter.

: : No matter what video card?

: See previous answer.

: : I'm assuming this will only work with specific video resolutions... but how about 640x480.. does that work at all?

: : Since you removed the video out. Is this because it was compatible enought not to need it since you can run windows with all video cards.. Or it just wasn't as compatible..

: PC monitors usually take .7 to 1Vp-p and now the J-PAC is outputting 4Vp-p. This could kill a pc monitor.

Andy>

This is not the reason as I could have put it before the amp. There are 3 reasons for removing it:
1: It left room on the board for the video amp
2: It affects the signal level. When the VGA monitor is plugged in, the level drops to the arcade monitor. Adjusting the amp gain to cater for this would result in clipping when the VGA monitor is disconnected as the output tries to drive over 5 volts. This would cause colour distortion.

3: A PC VGA monitor does not work in 15Khz mode so the pass-thru is only of any use when the PC is running in normal mode, which (hopefully) is not often in an arcade cabinet! It's easy to cross-plug into a VGA monitor for setup anyway if required.

: : last... did you ever setup a driver/setting page that shows people with jpac that have got everything working, what hardware they used and what their video/system settings are? This would be GREAT!

Andy>

I agree this would be very useful. It's on the things-to-do list but not quite at the top yet. There was a good posting on here a while ago about this. I have been meaning to contact the poster and get the OK to place the post on my site.
I have tried (maybe failed to some extent) to stress that the J-PAC only provides a connection method for an arcade monitor, not an instant plug-in solution for any PC. I want to try to avoid having to support the whole thing right through from MAME, vga card, to the monitor.

: : I'm hoping to make my 19" arcade CRT (that was removed and replaced with an EYGO VGA from my standup) to run a cocktail (or bartop... havent decided). I would LOVE to run in windows with a real video card if possible. Thanks :)
