How to make a 2 1/4" trackball spin better?

If you've ever played golden tee with its 3 inch trackball I'm sure you've noticed how well it spins, seconds after you're done touching it when you give it a good "slap." Well, I have a 2 1/4" trackball and there is no comparison. The thing barely spins. I've yet to play any games on it but I really like the feel of the 3 inch one.

Is there any way to make it spin better? I have added some lube spray and it helped but the results aren't quite what I want. Anyone try using a heavier ball? I have some pool balls and I think I'll try one but just wanted to post here first and see other people's experiences.
