: Look very good. What wood are you using, and how do you like it?
The cabinet is skinned in 1/2" BC pine plywood. I will sand it and stain it (Golden Pecan to match the rest of the furniture in the house).
I made the base of it out of 2"x4"'s. It is very, very solid. Handly any wiggle at all. The bottom is made of 5/8" MDF. The control panel top and sides are made from 1/2" Oak plywood with the bottom being made from 1/2" MDF. Again, it will be sanded and stained Golden Pecan. I added hinges underneath the control panel top to make getting at the insides easier. I still haven't worked out the method I want to use to secure it down yet.
The stain is glossy and has polyurethane in it for toughness. The control panel will be coated with an additional couple of layers of polyurethane instead of using a piece of Lexan to cover it.
I have a 19" monitor that will fit like a glove. I will use a piece of foam backed black board I picked up at Michael's to form the bexel and cover it with Lexan. I placed the big fan in the back to dissipate the heat that will build up. It is a 110v fan that moves 125cfm and is relatively quiet. I don't forsee a heat problem, but if I do, I can add another fan. I plan on adding some ventilation holes, probably in the back or the bottom front to aid in air flow through the cabinet.
I am still working out a few things like the front "door" I need to build. I am covering the ends of the plywood with 1/2" corner molding that has a fine grain to it. It fits very nicely and looks very good in contrast to the larger grain of the plywood.
I can't wait to get it done and put it to use. I have gotten so much help from the people on this board and the links from this site.
