Ok, I'm going nucking futs trying to get AdvanceMAME configured. I've read EVERY damn piece of documentation, tried numerous configs, and STILL nada. Here's what I've got:

Sharp 27" T.V. w/ S-Video Out
ATI Rage II Mach64 with TV out that I snaked from work ;)
and a crap-ass, gerneric 15" monitor that had no manual.

Here's what's happening:

When I try to use Advcfg, choose my NTSC TV (or monitor) with the *generic* settings (since I have no manual to get the p/h/vclock settings from) and then choose "easy centering, it goes through 3 modes (a diagonal b&w stripe, a grainy white screen, and snowy looking screen...pardon my non-technical jargon if you will:) then it locks up at a blank white screen, which I've let run for up to 15 miinutes before having to power the cpu off.
Next, I try to edit the advmame.rc file myself, adding in the following settings:

P: 5-80
H: 20-50
V: 12-50

Now, before I go on, I've tried the next step w/ every line suggested in the troubleshooting section of the install.txt for the vga/vbeline stuff.

When I go into advv to setup the video modes, I have maybe 4-10 choices that are "with my range" when testing them, most times the monitor will go off, and my tv will have the dreaded scrambled signals. A few times, the screen locked, and I couldn't get out & had to power off the cpu.

I'm at a complete (and frustrating) loss of what to do next to get this configured. I had planned on using advancemame w/ my sharp 27" for my cabinet, but obviously that's a no go right now. Any ideas? Is it just my video card is just too old/crappy or am I missing something within advancemame? I know the t.v. isn't the problem, as I've seen quite a few cabinet examples using my exact t.v. w/ advancemame.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

and a note on Electric Playground/HanaHo on DSCI tomorrow...they've had an Arcade PC on their set forever, so it's nice to see them finaally explain to the ignorant exactly what it is. Should be interesting if host (and game music guru) Tommy Tellarico doesn't dork it up like he does most of his segments :) At least he's better than the sad saps on the only other videogame show, Extended Play...
