"Oops" on the last blank post...
Look through the archives and you'll find that Saint has said he'd like to switch forum software at some point, and was evaluating the options. He seemed to be stuck on finding one that could do archiving. I find UBBThreads and vBulletin are the two easiest to use. I don't know about their ability to archive old messages but their searches are usually very fast, and they're easy to navigate and stay current with. It seems bandwidth would be cut down immensely... The main wwwboard page here is MASSIVE, whereas the other forum softwares keep the pages smaller by limiting the number of threads per page.
As for userid/password, how difficult is that? A cookie can keep you from having to enter it each time you visit. No big deal.
While it's not bad enough to make anyone leave, I certainly think new forum software would add a lot to this already valuable resource.
: I would also like to defend Saint's choice of msg board software. Using newer msg board software usually requires more administraion responsiblity (userid/password administration for example). This board is very simple and intuative.

: : Hey, Agent Davis, I know you mean well, but I gotta admit to serious misgivings about this.
: : Right now, arcadecontrols.com is host to pretty much the only message board dedicated to custom-built arcade cabinets. While I think the message board interface here is pretty clunky and wish Saint would upgrade to some of the more modern software that's available (hint, hint) there is very much to be said for having just one place for all us cab builders to congregate and discuss. If you set up competing message boards, it'll add an extra stop on our daily surf. It'll probably also result in a lot of duplication, as people post identical questions to both boards in hopes of getting the most replies, and it'll result in some people missing out on important information (if, say, Person A only reads your boards and Person B only reads arcadecontrols.com, and Person A has a query that only Person B can answer).
: : It's great to have extra resources available on the Internet. But it's also great to have a single "meeting place", and I hope you think long and hard before fragmenting it.
