I think routing the cabinet sides would make it pretty flimsy, wouldn't it? You'd be cutting down the sides from (presumably) 3/4" to 1/2"... If you end up doing that, I'd love to see pictures of how it turns out... But I would question the structural stability at that point. My cab sides are made of old particle board and I dont think I'd trust it at 1/2"...
: I am in the same boat with you. My cabinet is only 24" wide. I've looked at and measured dozens of 25" and 27" TV's. Other than taking the TV out of the shell, the only other thing I've thought of is to use a router and shave a quarter inch off of each side of the cabinet at the appropriate spots.
