Doesn't matter where you put them, You'll here them just fine. That is why sub boxes are sometimes put in the trunks of cars.

Not that I see. I used a Pioneer DEQ-7600 15 band eq with DSP which gives a nice time delay from front to rear and also has a sub crossover built in. In addition I once used an 80 watt (40 + 40) Blaupunkt Amp powered by a 200watt pc power supply and driving a 12" dual voice coil Pioneer sub.
: 3. Are there any issues with an 8/10" sub magnet sitting in close proximity to a hard drive? even if I have the system up on a shelf it will still be only a foot or so away from the sub.
If you have the covers all on the case there will be no issue. The covers are made of steel which acts as a megnetic sheild (unless the magnet touches the steel then it acts as a transmitter of the magnetism) The bigger concern than the hard drive is the monitor. A magnet that large will affect a monitor even 2' - 3' or more away! HOWEVER, with magnetic sheilding you can overcome this. In fact in the cocktail that I'm getting ready to build I expect to have the 12" Pioneer sub from my cockpit a mere 6" from the neck of the Wells Gardner U3100 that I'm using. Build I will also use a sheet of steel from Home Depot for magnetic sheilding.

Also I suggest the Velleman Amp. You can get it from Radio Shack and other electronics stores. It is a kit but easy to build. It is also available assembled. See link on Radio Shack page above.
