Verizon definitely has usenet access. I just got DSL, and I've been having fun poking around all the binaries groups to see what I can find. I'm at work now, but if you can't find the address, mail me and I'll give it to you...

: I just checked Verizon's web site and it does say they give you access to newsgroups. Have you asked them what the server's address is?
