Hehe, opinions are like arm pits I've heard. Everybody has a couple but they usually stink. :)

I agree though, if Microsoft (or clever hackers) release tools to develop or emulate on the X Box, it could no doubt be a very capable replacement for an arcade box. A minor nuisances could be control, although I have read that there are ways to munge USB connectors into the X Box controller port.

: I have to agree with the others. For general playing around and perhaps playing some classic emulated games this would work, but quite frankly the ps2 is too inferior a system to bother with trying anything else. I realize you didn't want to start a console war, but for modding purposes and modding purposes only, I have to go there.

: Games aside, once (if ever) the filesystem of the xbox is figured out it will be the ulitmate modding box. Why? Well straight out of the box it's a better solution than the ps2 it has a better graphics processor and a 700 mhz processor, as opposed to the puny 400 mhz in the ps2. Also it has a harddrive built in, so no need for that added expense. Also a superior quality phillips dvd drive, 4 psuedo usb ports, and a built in 3com ethernet port.

: And yeah you can get a bare-bones system for around the 300 price tag, but not one with a dvd player and 3com ethernet port, a 40$ usb gamepad and a harddrive.

: Teh dreamcast is also a much better solution than the ps2. Why? Because it has similar specs, but you can pick one up for about 50-60 bucks. And some of it's games are going for as little as 5 bucks.

: For an existing ps2 that your fed-up with, yeah this might be a novel idea to try, but for anyone else, don't even bother.... it's costly, time consuming and you won't have much to show for it when your finished.

: Ok there's my two cents... insert flame here :)
