: Because newsgroups have the same bandwidth issues that regular html sites do. They also have the same legal concerns. If they become too popular then the majority of them will be shut down as well.
: Btw, in emulation terms mame.dk shutting down IS the end of the world. It's the only site that made you download roms responsibly, which I know most of you hate. Also all of their roms were guaranteed to be working and virus free, which can be a huge problem if your going to go the newsgroups route. Btw there are other sites out there, but they're nowhere near as big (that's why I'm not going to tell you hwere any of them are.)
