It's not a software problem

Dude, what about freakin Donkey Kong?? Anyways, the 4 way joystick problem is not a software/rom problem. It has to do with the physical joysticks themselves. They have up down left and right, but the 8 ways also have the corners, and the 4 way games only see the up down left and right. When you hit a corner, it's a dead space to the game itself, i.e. no response. I've never messed with a 4way joystick before. I'm not sure if they physically are unable to move into the corners or if there is a wiring trick where moving into the corners triggers the first switch you hit and ignores the other. That's why Oscar's restritor plates physically keep the 8 ways from moving into corners. Physically keeping them from moving into corners is the only hardware way to do it (besides wierd wiring).

: just a thought... not that i have many, but i just noticed that the only game i play that uses a 4-way stick is pac-man... will someone please just rewrite the rom so that it wont be jacked up with an 8-way stick... this would save many of us a lot of grief... not to mention quarters...
: thanks,
: Chris
