First off, I agree that if a person bought the cab just becasue of that one line, that person is not a smart shopper. And $4000 is too much for me.

The line you quote, however, is a quote itself. Hanaho didn't make it, and is quoting someone else. Think of it as a movie review quote. Even the worst movies are able to get at least a couple quotes than sound good, and put them in there adds. The person/magazine/TV show/on-line review or whoever made that quote probably didn't know how to add. Unless, maybe, whoever said it added in the price of the ROMS: 50 of them. I don't know the going price of a PCB or legal license of the ROMs, but it's more that the zero $$$ "paid" for the "quasi-legal" downloads people do. This legal license is a part, even though not a physical part. So, maybe, to this one person, that statement was true when it was made.

And one quote does not make a company a total liar. Just because the one quote is not true (to us) does not mean the buyer is ripped off. Example: hotrod = $200 (list); same parts I bought ~= $100 (IPAC encoder $40, 2 happ supers $20, 18 buttons $18, 2x4 foot 3/4" board $12, paint $5, wires & wire connectors $5). Parts in HotRod I didn't buy: laminate ($5?), T-molding ($5?), legal ROM licenses(14 ROMs @ $6? per ROM = $84), which would total $194. Not included in my cost: drill, drill bits, saw, nails, work bench, my time, electricity bill, cuts & bruises. And I'm not even finished yet.

Sure I can get _illegal_ copies of the same ROMS for free. Sure I can use the tools again, but I didn't buy them until I needed them for this project. But $200 vs $194 isn't to bad of a price.

That said, $4000 is a bit much for me. $2400 (the price of cab minus computer & monitor) is closer to my limit. If I do buy a $2400 hanaho cab, it will be with my eyes wide open, not a suckered in buyer because of one line of text. I hope all buyers are semi-smart, do some research before spending thousands of dollars, and don't get suckered in.

BTW, IMO, The computer is a ripoff for practically everyone. For some computer illiterates, it might be worth it to have it setup for them.

And, yes, hanaho should remove the quote.

: I was in r.g.v.a.c and someone was talking about hanahos full size mame cab....talking about what a ripoff it was!
: Unbelievable!!! $4000!!!
: What makes it sickening is they say on the website "why build one when you can have one for less than the cost of the parts"....what a joke and a scam.
: And the final kicker is that is comes with a 600mhz computer....what the hell is that for....I have more power in my digital watch!!!

WOW, I bet your watch has a 640x480 screen too.j/k ;)

: It sickens me to see big companys like hanaho rip people off like that! I wonder how many unsuspecting suckers they got with that!!!

: You could built that thing for under $1500

: The computer is worth about $400
: And the monitor and parts for that cab could be obtained for under $1100

: and these are very generously high prices!!!
