: My thoughts homed in on the controls side of the puzzle. How to wire the thing. I decided hacking a keyboard was the only way and dismantled a couple of my own to investigate this. Having decided it was going to be tough but doable I started to wonder where I would get the buttons and the joystick. The internet search that followed this line of thought led me here where I was both saddened and delighted to find that I wasn't the first person in the world to have this idea.
: So anyway. I've been looking at the Happ controls site and it seems they do a range of Joysticks none of which I can try for myself before I buy so I'm going to ask you guys to help me out. What I want is a joystick that offers little resistence because fighting a stiff joystick for an hour results in a severe wrist ache, not only that but stiff joysticks make games such as RType very tough because it is more difficult to judge your position, movement & stopping. But at the same time the stick needs to feel solid and reasure me that it isn't going to snap off if I do one more Streetfighter speacial move. Any reccomendations?
: PS. Due to lack of free space at home I've realised that I'm not likely to be able to mount a strong enough case in favour of our installing an arcade cabinet for a while at least so I've decided to design one and just build the control panel part of it for now. My girlfriend has already started to worry about my current web browsing habits and their long term effect on our environment. Here's another problem which someone will surely have a solution, I decided that WHEN I eventually make the cabinet I'd like to use a TV screen rather than a monitor but I can't figure out a satisfactory way of turning it on since all TV's insist on a standby mode pending a signal from the remote. Not only that but few TV's are willing to come on automatically displaying the scart input. Any solutions or are these the main reasons people don't use TV's?
