I didn't look too closely at that link about the Audi stereo project because it wasn't arcade stuff and they didn't really give you any howto details.
I just looked at the site again and had an epihany. I've got a '73 Mustang that I've been looking for door panels for forever. I could build a mold and build some new door panels from fiberglass!!
As far as the cabinet project, it seems that if you want a nice smooth metalflake gellcoat finish, you need to build a negative mold and work from the outside in. That's a bit more work than I had hoped for. This would make more sense if I was building more than just one cabinet.
I still might follow through and talk with a boatbuilder locally to see what they have to say. You never know, it might turn out to be feasible.
