I see your point but then I look at MadSmurf setup and his display is fantastic. I can read windows text even off the photos on his website.
He is using a 29 inch display and quality is superb.

Take a look for yourself...

: From my experience, the reason the text is unreadable is because of the size of the pixels on TVs and Arcade monitors vs the pixels on a PC monitor. If you look closly at a tv/arcade monitor you can see the pixels, do the same with a pc monitor and you have to strain your eyes like hell to see the pixels. I have a VGA arcade monitor in my mame box and even though it is a VGA monitor the pixel size is that of a tv. and for that reason you will never get near the clarity of a PC monitor. But all of the mame games were originaly designed to run on a standard res arcade monitor and thats what they look best on. a pc monitor would be way to crisp and actually make the games look worse, they look very blocky. Thats why I went vga arcade, the monitor plugs right in to the wall and has a regular sub-d computer monitor vga cord, no need for scan converter.

: Hope this helps.
