Parts like the monitor are very heavy. You should concider building it the way that I've seen kit cars built. Use semi-rigid foam to get your basic shape and then fiberglass that on both sides. I've read that car bodies designed this way survive impacts fairly well.

You'll probably want to make monitor mounts and such out of wood. And probably glue them to the foam before fiberglassing. That is the way car audio people to the spearker mounts.

: I'd like to get the board's ideas on building your own fiberglass cabinet a'la computer space.

: Does that even sound like something someone could do in their garage?

: It seems like you would need some internal support which would also provide as points to bolt your equiptment to. A coin door/access panel could be built into the frame.

: My first thought was to use something like chicken wire as form. Or would finish give poor results unless I used a mold? (that sounds like a lot more work!) Since I'm not mass producing this, I could probably smooth things out with bondo.

: The cabinet would have to be carefully designed to support switchable control panels without looking like crud.

: Does anyone have and idea what it would cost to have something like this built and a auto body or boat shop?
