For years now I've kept all my computer cabinets totally open, since I tend to futz with the innards so often. I've never had a dead computer yet, and looking at the CPU temp in SiSandra, things stay nice and cool.

And in one of my cabs I mounted the motherboard to the inside wall, mimicking the board that was originally installed in the cabinet, and built a little wooden rack for the harddrives. It works great, doesn't heat up at all, and looks nice too.

Don't worry about it.

Well, unless you're overclocking maybe.

: The cabinet design I'm planning on will not be open at the back.
: This brings the question of air flow and cooling to mind.

: I do plan on having several holes in the top of the cab for air intake, and a good fan in the back to exhaust. Hopefully that is sufficient.

: I am also planning on leaving the PC cover off to allow it to be exposed to the air flow.

: Any thoughts?

: Is a PC, monitor, and a small stereo tucked in a cabinet going to generate / capture enough heat for me to worry about it this much?

: Thanks in advance.
