Ok, I can't tell you the EXACT steps but I can give you the idea.
I currently had to reformat my copmuter. I put 98 back on it to try multiple mice in mame.
BUT on you XP box, right click my copmuter and goto properties. Goto Network Identification. There should be some button that starts a setup wizard. That wizard will ask if you netowrk is a home or work network. Select home.
It "should" work after that. IF it doesn't install IIS (get the latest patches right away) and setup ftp.
