: I have a few different designs to accomodate PC games (FPS in particular)...

: 1.) The arcade controls-only version has a Happs Top fire joystick in the left hand, six buttons, then a trackball on the right. The trackball should be close enough to the button so you can click on one or two with your thumb, and a third button on the upper right area by the trackball can be pushed by your pinky.

: The joystick handles moving forward/backward + strafe left/right + fire primary weapon. The trackball handles the "mouse-look", with the thumb button for secondary weapon and jump. The extra buttons select weapons etc.

: I plan to add two foot pedals, one for jumping, one for crawling...

: 2.) Use a rotary joystick to move and strafe, but also the rotary action turns your head left and right. Then use the right hand to fire, jump, etc. You'll need to assign a temporary "mouse look" button so you can look around with the joystick, but let's face it, most of the time you're running and shooting straight. This setup is probably ideal for older FPS like DOOM where there is no mouse-look necessary.

: 3.) Hybrid: I'm builing a mini-cab with these controls. I'm using a 20-key X-Keys keypad (4 x 5 programmable keys) on the left, then a mouse on the right. Pretty much standard FPS control but the smaller keypad lets me put a regular joystick and buttons in between the keypad and mouse
