Have you tried enabling debug mode in glaunch.cfg? This should display exactly what commands are being run and should show any errors you get. Also, like Rocket said, GL does not work with MAME32 or the windows version of MAME, only the DOS version.

Try joining the Game Launcher mailing list, and maybe someone else could help ya out there.
