In Reply to: How to make LCD marquee (software)...? posted by aramis on January 27, 2002 at 11:53:46:

The major problem is actually quite simple. A laptop screen (or any other lcd that anyone can seem to find) is in no way similar in size to the size of a full marquee. A full marquee is somewhere in the effect of 2 feet wide and half a foot high.

Projecting an image would be a more viable solution. However, you still have to project an image of approximately 24" by 6". You'd have to do this using a very limited amound of space.

An altogether different approach has been discussed as well. This approach involves printing marquees and having them rolled up into some sort of scroll and having some sort of mechanical device that know what marquee to go to.

Both methods seem very difficult but I'd love to see someone pull off some sort of interchangable marquee.

: Hey everyone,
: I was thinking about trying to make an "active" marquee using an old laptop (or just the LCD out of it), a fresnel lens, and a piece of the "glass" from a junked rear projection TV. Could this work?

: I guess my biggest question is how to get the laptop (or 2nd vid card in PC) to display the marquee .png? I'm using an ATI w/S-vid out to a TV. How can I set up software to display the game on the TV but the corresponding marquee on the LCD?

: If you know of any URL's that can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it!

: Thanks!
