If you want to use a laptop LCD be ready to spend some big bucks. Finding a laptop screen is easy, check ebay- they go for $20-$50. Actually using the screen is another story. To use the LCD to display images from your computer you will need an LCD controller PCI card. You can find cards like these at www.earthlcd.com, but none of them are less than $200. So to you're looking at roughly $250 to use a junk laptop LCD. It would probably be easier if you used an old working laptop. You could store the images on the laptop and possibly setup some remote control of it through ethernet or whatnot. My only concern would be that the laptop LCD wouldn't have enough brightness- especially if it's an older passive LCD. Good luck though, if you can get it to work it is sure to be an amazing touch.

: Hey everyone,
: I was thinking about trying to make an "active" marquee using an old laptop (or just the LCD out of it), a fresnel lens, and a piece of the "glass" from a junked rear projection TV. Could this work?

: I guess my biggest question is how to get the laptop (or 2nd vid card in PC) to display the marquee .png? I'm using an ATI w/S-vid out to a TV. How can I set up software to display the game on the TV but the corresponding marquee on the LCD?

: If you know of any URL's that can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it!

: Thanks!
