I wanted to respond to some of your ideas, so just follow along.
:)

: For example, one idea I have is that, as a user of a fe, I don't mind which emu launch a game, I just want to choose the game, and it is the fe problem to launch the good emu with the good parameters... (a hint to Howard ;-)

I think that's a wonderful idea, but it's very impractical. First off, I'm no-where near adding all the emus for Rd. When I do there will be ALOT of games. (im thinking around 4500, but that's just a guess) One big list of games sucks for naviagtion. The sorting by emu's is just a quick and easy way to break up the list a bit.

Also I really want end users to appreciate the emu authors hard work. If you eliminate all distinction between what game goes with what emu then it's easy to forget what a b**ch it was to get it emulated. Also how do you decide whihc options are the "best"? How do you determine which emu will be the "best"? I'm not disagreeing with you, those are just some things to think about.

: One other thing that could be cool is to made an "rfc" for emu authors to have a standard to launch emu with gamename and parameters, a standard way to configure keys for emus (I hate S11 to have his own keys not configurable)... Perhaps we could propose to emu authors some standard C++ code.

Boy, I sure agree with this one. I don't understand what the big deal is, why don't all emu authors stick to mame conventions? Now mind you I'm not too fond of the lctrl-latl-lshift business, but everything else is perfect. Modeler, Impact, and s11, are some of the most advanced emu's out there but alot of people get turned away from them because of there non-standard, non configurable (in modeler and s11's case) key setups. Also impact won't let you use -lalt or -lctrl for keys, which seems to be a problem with many emus. Maybe it's time for mame to give up these keys and switch to more "freindly" ones?
